Two very different traditions
Hirsch is a 100+ year-old Austrian strap house. Heritage is the brand. Their silicone lineup (Pure, Performance, Hybrid) leans on industrial scale and decades of leather DNA carried into rubber. POPSTRAP is the opposite — a French independent, May 2026 launch, single product line, designed specifically for the 40mm Swatch x AP case.
Where Hirsch builds generic silicone bands across hundreds of references, POPSTRAP is molded to the exact lug geometry of the Royal Pop Swatch × Audemars Piguet case. The Royal Pop is unusual: a 40mm pocket-watch head with no integrated bracelet system, which is exactly the constraint POPSTRAP was designed around.
You are not comparing equivalents. You are comparing a generalist with a deep catalog against a specialist with one closed-edition drop. Both make good silicone. The question is which one fits your watch and your usage.
Material and construction
| POPSTRAP Drop 01 | Hirsch Pure / Performance | |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Platinum-cured medical-grade silicone | Peroxide-cured silicone & rubber hybrid |
| Origin | Made in France | Made in Austria |
| Fit | 40mm Swatch x AP integrated lugs | Standard lug widths 18–24mm |
| Edition | Closed drop, numbered | Open production catalog |
| Hardware | Pressure-tested buckle, 1.5mm spring bars | Standard Hirsch buckle |
Platinum-cured silicone — what POPSTRAP runs — uses a platinum catalyst that fully cures without leaving peroxide byproducts. The result is cleaner skin contact, no surface tackiness over time, and longer dimensional stability. Hirsch's volume catalog includes peroxide-cured straps that age faster. Their high-end FKM line is a different animal — for that conversation see our silicone vs FKM breakdown.
Fit on the 40mm Swatch x AP
Hirsch does not make a strap specifically for the Swatch x AP MoonSwatch / Bioceramic 40mm with the curved integrated lug profile. Their 20mm straps fit the lug width but sit proud of the case, leaving a visible gap. Works fine on a traditional watch. Looks wrong on a case designed for integration.
POPSTRAP Drop 01 is shaped to the exact lug curve of the 40mm AP-style case — see the compatibility page for the full case list. There is no gap, no proud sit, no improvisation. That is the whole point of the brand.
Price and edition philosophy
Hirsch silicone runs roughly €60–110 depending on line. Always in stock. Reorder forever. POPSTRAP Drop 01 sits in a similar price band — but when it sells out, it is gone. Closed edition by design.
This is not artificial scarcity. We picked a unit count, made that many, and do not produce more. The strap on your wrist is one of N — not one of millions. Read the brand page for the full reasoning. Hirsch will reorder for the next 100 years. POPSTRAP Drop 01 will not.
Which one should you buy?
Buy Hirsch if: you own a traditional dive watch, chronograph, or anything with standard lug widths. You want a strap you can reorder in 2030. You value heritage and a deep catalog. Their service network is excellent.
Buy POPSTRAP if: you own a 40mm Swatch x AP and you want a strap engineered for it. You like the closed-edition collecting model. You care about French independent manufacturing. You want platinum-cured material over peroxide-cured.
There is no wrong answer. They solve different problems.
One honest caveat
We are POPSTRAP. We make this comparison knowing we have a position. We have tried to keep it factual — material differences, fit specifics, edition models. If you have worn both and disagree, we want to hear it. Our workshop page has direct contact for that conversation.
Worn quiet. Built loud. See Drop 01 for the full color lineup — black, white, green, yellow @3, blue @3, blue @12 — while the closed edition is still in stock.
